Troubleshooting Steps

With Precision Cut Archery, good data in should always mean good data out.

If you're seeing inaccurate results, this always means there is some error somewhere in the input data.

Our job is to figure out where this error is coming from and fix it. We've compiled a list of steps to help determine the source of this error.

Troubleshooting Steps

  • I've double checked my bow measurements (peep-to-pin and peep-to-arrow) in a draw board.
  • I've double checked my total arrow weight, and cross referenced with a different scale or arrow weight calculator.
  • I've double checked my sight-in data to ensure nothing was entered incorrectly or typo-ed.
  • I've properly zeroed my sight tape at a far distance.
  • I've verified my print scaling is correct.
  • I'm not using shot-in 20 or 30 yard marks for my sight-in.
  • I've made sure my bow is reasonably in tune (shooting a bullet hole through paper at ~5-7 yards).
    • An out of tune bow can throw off sight marks and lead to inaccurate results.
  • I've double checked my peep alignment while shooting at different distances.
    • As we dial our sights up or down, our anchor point has to change slightly. This can cause archers to fade out the top or bottom of the peep at different distances, skewing our marks.
  • I shot my marks in by shooting at a horizontal line on a target, and I'm confident they are hitting perfectly.
    • Shooting at a horizontal line can greatly improve the accuracy of shot-in sight marks over shooting groups.
  • I've cross referenced my rangefinder's readings with another unit or a tape measure.
    • Rangefinders are notoriously inaccurate, and is a very common source of error in archery.
  • I've cross referenced my chronograph's speed reading with another unit or the Precision Cut Archery arrow speed estimator.
    • Chronographs readings can be quite inaccurate, especially optical chronographs.
  • I've creep tuned my bow (shot a few arrows at a far distance pulling hard into the back wall and pulling softly into the back wall).
    • High or low inconsistencies can happen if you're pulling harder or softer while shooting in different ranges.
