Phomemo D30 Label Printer for Sight Tapes

Overview

This section will guide you through the process of printing a sight tape with the Phomemo D30 label printer. This is a inexpensive, portable label printer that can serve as a good backup in the field.

⚠ Some Words of Warning ⚠

Label printers like the Phomemo D30 work with image files. Image files do not have robust scaling built into them like PDF files do. As such, sight tape scaling can be a bit finicky with this type of printer.

We've sized our image file to work exactly right with the Phomemo Print Master mobile application and their 0.59" continuous labels. However, as always, it's a good idea to verify the scale of the printout every time with this sort of printer. We detail how to do this below.

Print resolution is also an issue. Most label printers like the D30 are around 200 DPI (Dots Per Inch). This creates a bit of a blurriness or graininess in the printout. For reference, most standard desktop printers are 600-2400 DPI and produce much cleaner sight tapes.

What You'll Need

Note

The 0.59" continuous labels must be used and selected within the Print Master mobile application. Our image file is sized to work with these labels only.

Prerequisites

Printing the Tape

Download and Save the Image File

Click on Printing.

Select Specialty Tapes printing mode.

Make sure Phomemo D30 0.59" Continuous is selected, and click Download Image.

Click View.

Click the share button.

Select Save Image. This saves the image to your phone's camera roll.

Use the Print Master Mobile Application

Open the Print Master mobile application.

Select New Label.

Ensure Continous Label, 0.59", and Transparent are selected. Click the red checkmark in the upper-right corner to continue.

Tap Picture. Select the sight tape image file you saved to your phone's camera roll.

Tap Filter. Do not crop the image at all.

Select 256 Grayscale. Click the checkmark in the bottom-right corner to continue.

Tap the Rotate button until the sight tape is in the correct orientation.

Once the tape is rotated correctly, drag it so the bottom-left corner of the image is aligned with the printable area in the label. Then, drag the tape from the top-right corner so it exactly fills the printable area. Note it will sort of "snap" into place.

Tap the Print Label button in the bottom-right corner.

Then, tap Print Now.

Verifying the Print Scale

Once your tape is printed, it's crucial to verify its printed to the correct scale.

Tape Length

This is the simplest way to verify the tape is printed to the correct size. When you printed the sight tape, a length was selected.

Let's say your tape length is set to 2.5".

That printed tape should measure 2.5" from inside-border to inside-border.

Note

Scaling might not be perfect with the D30, but it should be very, very close.
